Handmade Lotion Bars

Lotion Lotion 2 Lotion 3

So, I’ve been staring at a computer screen for far too many hours this week so this post is short but sweet.

I made these lotion bars for Christmas presents last year and I was really happy with the way they turned out! The bars are solid at room temperature because of the coconut oil, but they spread on the skin with a little body heat. I’ve been using mine for dry hands and feet and chapped lips. The lotion is a bit greasy, so let it soak in before you start touching things.

I found all of the ingredients at Vita Health, but I’m sure there are cheaper places. Also, I made a big batch so I used a cup of each ingredient, adjust your ratios to suit your needs!

These ended up smelling like mint chocolates and if After Eights aren’t up your alley play around with different essential oils. Lavender would probably be divine.

I altered the recipe I found from here slightly.

Handmade Lotion Bars

Ingredients

1 part coconut oil
1 part shea butter
1 part beeswax
60 drops peppermint essential oil

Directions

1. Combine all ingredients in a double boiler and bring water to a boil. I suggest cut the shea butter and beeswax  into smaller chunks so it melts faster.

2. Once everything has melted, take off heat and add essential oils.

3. Pour into whatever molds you’d like and set aside to cool. I used a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

Enjoy the resulting silky smooth skin!
